Rusing is an often unspoken reality of the recruiting industry. In fact, the word rusing isn’t included in the Meriam Webster Dictionary, even though recruiting practitioners and legal experts have debated the practice for decades. It defines competitive intelligence and corporate espionage, and gives examples of both activities. It also takes a look at the state and federal laws, which could be used to prosecute those who cross the line into corporate espionage.

Phone sourcing is an important piece of the talent acquisition equation and can be done effectively without rusing and crossing into corporate espionage. Awareness and training are needed to ensure corporations stay competitive without being exposed to risk.
